Text lover gone missing in Cagayan de Oro

He came all the way from the country’s capital city to meet her lady textmate in this city. He stopped to buy her flowers and it was the last time she received a text message from him.

“Hangtud karon dili pako kasiguro gyud kung buhi pa kadto siya (Until now I cannot say for certain whether he is still alive or not),” said 22-year old Lovely Jane Bambea referring to her textmate Jay Edward Mendiola who was a biology student from the University of the Philippines in Manila.

Lovely, a resident of Salay, Misamis Oriental, narrated over dxIF Bombo Radyo yesterday how she met Jay via text messaging and chatting over the Internet several months ago.

She said Jay was suffering from blood cancer and wanted to meet with her before he leaves the country for some treatment abroad.

As she is a nursing student, she said she sympathizes with Jay’s situation and agreed to rendezvous with him for lunch at Limketkai Mall, this city last Thursday.

Lovely recalled how Jay sent him a text message that his plane has arrived in Cagayan de Oro City and that she gave him some instructions to take a taxicab and proceed to Limketkai Mall.

But when Jay passed by St. Augustine Cathedral Church, he got off the taxicab to buy Lovely some flowers.

She said she received a text message from Jay informing her that he was at some flower shop at St. Augustine Cathedral and that he was taking a motorela straight to Limketkai Mall.

“Mao na kadto ang last nako nga text nga gikan gyud sa iyaha (That was the last text message I received that was really from him),” she said adding that what followed later was the text messages from Jay’s phone but was used by some other person who was texting in the local dialect.

Lovely said she immediately rushed to St. Augustine Cathedral and asked the florists there whether they saw Jay around 11:00 a.m. that day.

She said one florist gave her an affirmative answer adding that she recalled Jay as he was speaking in Tagalog and that he was last seen taking a motorela ride.

Lovely said she had already asked for help from the police but so far no real lead has turned up to lead her to be fully certain that Jay is still alive.

She said she also checked the hospitals close to Upper Camaman-an but there was no Jay or one fitting his description who got admitted as a patient.

“Naa ko’y nadawat nga mga text messages nga nagpaila nga iyaha kunong ig-agaw unya iyaha kunong parents nga nakapauli na kuno siya pero hangtud karon gaduda pa gihapon ko kung asa na gyud kadto siya (I received text messages from some people who claim to be Jay’s cousin and then as his parents saying that Jay is already heading home but I until now I still have my doubts as to his whereabouts),” she said.
