There are now some 28 colleges in the entire Northern Mindanao which had recently manifested their intentions to increase their fees for school year 2008-2009.
Engr. Susan Daisy Raagas, officer in-charge for tuition evaluation at the regional office of the Commission on Higher Education (Ched-10), said these Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) had already sent them their letters of advice (LOAs) or application documents for tuition increase or both since last February this year.
She said most of these schools are asking a tuition hike ranging from two percent to 15 percent for this school year.
“But those HEIs which are asking for a 15 percent increase are those that actually collects very low tuition rates already that a 15 percent increase would only mean an increase by around P10.00,” she told Gold Star Daily in the dialect.
The deadline for submission for these LOAs was set last March 31, 2008 and Raagas said they had already submitted their report to their CHED main office in Manila.
Raagas, however, explained that these schools are now being advised to comply with all the other requirements provided for under the new Ched Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 13 and the recently issued CMO No. 16
These requirements include consultations with students, parents and other stakeholders to proper documentation and submission of all the required documents with their office.
She added that no tuition fee increase will be implemented unless the concerned college has complied with all the provisions under the law and the above Ched orders.
The following had submitted their LOAs/application for tuition hike documents: Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT), AMA Computer College, Cagayan de Oro College, Capitol University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Lourdes College, Pilgrim Christian College, Southern de Oro Philippines College and Xavier University.
Iligan Capitol College, Illigan Medical Center College, Lyceum of Iligan Foundation, St. Micheal’s College and Mindanao Sanitarium Hospital College all located in Iligan City together with Northern Central Mindanao College in Maranding, Lanao del Norte had also manifested their intention to hike up their school fees this school year.
Also, La Salle University-Ozamiz, Misamis University and Misamis Institute of Technology in Ozamiz City as well as those in Oroqueita City namely Southern Capital Colleges, Stella Maris College, Misamis University-Oroquieta and Sacred Heart College in Calamba all of Misamis Occidental.
