Almost 35 hours have gone yet Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Alden Bacal has yet to show his face, offer a personal apology and personally give out any form of help to the parents of 14-year old Junrie Bagas Balingit, the victim whom he killed in a vehicular accident 5:00 a.m. Thursday.

“Hangtud karon wala pa gyud pa gyud siya magpakita or bisan nalang membro sa iyang pamilya…wala sab gani tabang bisan gamay (Until now, Bacal has yet to show his face to us or even any member of his family…he has not even rendered us any form of help),” said 35-year old Regie Balingit, the victim’s mother, at around 3:00 p.m. Friday yesterday.

But Vice-Mayor Vicente Emano, who now holds Bacal under custody, said the city councilor is reluctant to visit the Balingit Family or go anywhere near the area where the incident happen.

He said this as there are now threats against Bacal and that the parents and the family members of the victim might get back at the city councilor.

“Makulatahan unya siya didto (He might be beaten if he shows up there),” he said over radio interviews.

Regie said Bacal did not just rammed his vehicle on her son and nailing the latter dead to a tree with a chicken fence laced with barb wire but ran from the scene.

She added that there was even no attempt on Bacal’s part to bring down the body of her son from the fence and bring the latter to the hospital.

The mother’s victim recounted how witnesses saw that Bacal was actually on the wrong side of the road when he hit her son and was running his car in a “zigzag” manner.

Already, Bacal admitted that he had some drinks but was still sober enough to properly think and remember everything.

He said he really wanted to lend his help to the victim and his family.

He added that he is also ready to answer any charges and be penalized for what he did to the victim.

Regie admitted to Gold Star Daily that she has never seen Bacal’s face in personal and that all she wanted to do was confront the public officer for what he did and his running from the scene instead.

She said she even went to dxIF Bombo Radyo where she was told that Bacal was giving an interview on that very morning last Thursday.

However, she recalled how she only caught up with Vice-Mayor Vicente Emano and four other persons whom she could not identify.

She narrated how she asked Emano that she be pointed out to Bacal but that the vice-mayor instead told her that it was not necessary for her to confront the city councilor who killed and left her son as they might exchange heated words instead.

“Unya gi-ingnan lang ko ni Vice-Mayor Emano nga dili na kinahanglan mag-atubang pa kay kami na ang manubag sa tanan (And I was just told by Vice-Mayor Emano that it was no longer necessary for me to confront Bacal as it will be them who will answer for everything),” she said.

Gerardo Balingit, Sr., the grandfather of the victim, said it should have been Emano who told Bacal to be man enough to confront them, give out a personal apology and even help the family.

He added that only city councilors Reynaldo Advincula and Adrian Barba visited them to help them out with the funeral expenses.
