Cagayan de Oro dads ask Arroyo to protect CA Associate Justice Sabio

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is now being requested by the City Council of Cagayan de Oro to provide protection for Court of Appeals Associate Justice Jose Sabio, Jr. and his family.

During their regular session yesterday, opposition City Councilor Zaldy Ocon said Sabio and his family are now receiving death threats after the CA justice exposed corrupt activities perpetrated within the Judicial Branch in regard to the controversial Meralco-SEC case.

“We should ask President Arroyo to provide security protection to Justice Sabio and his family,” he said.

Ocon’s request was approved and was integrated in the City Council’s resolution expressing support of Sabio’s efforts to cleanse the Court of Appeals from allegedly corrupt justices as originally authored by City Councilor and Liceo de Cagayan University College of Law dean Atty. Adrian Barba.

Sabio is a resident of Cagayan de Oro and formerly served as one of the high-profile professors at Xavier University College of Law.

The City Council’s move came as the Sabio family is now bracing themselves for tougher times as two public relations firms are now reportedly hired to conduct a smear campaign to discredit Justice Sabio’s efforts to cleanse the Court of Appeals from allegedly corrupt justices.

“This is going to get even uglier and we have expected it to become so from the very start,” Bobbie Sabio, the son of Associate Justice Sabio, said in a letter to Gold Star Daily columnist Atty. Manuel Ravanera yesterday.

The young Sabio voiced his deep appreciation to the “deluge of support” that came their way since his father came out in the open and disclosed that he was offered a P10 million bribe to turn the tide in favor of Meralco in the abovementioned case.

Still, he said they are “up against people with very deep pockets” and people who also own a huge media outfit.

“So we are counting a lot on your prayers. My father has nothing but the truth and the knowledge that if God is with him, who can be against him,” his letter reads.
