Additional Armed Forces troops from the Visayas yesterday arrived here and were immediately deployed to the Lanao and Cotabato areas to hunt down the renegade Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) groups.
Armed Forces’ Fourth Infantry Division public affairs officer Major Michele Anayron, Jr. made this disclosure as he disputed two criticisms being hurled against the local military.
He said the “harsh and unfair” comments included how they supposedly were not prepared for the MILF rogue elements despite their heightened red alert and that they are not exactly doing everything to hunt down these renegade groups.
“Our Armed Forces’ troops cannot be everywhere at the same time this is why we need the help of the people. But we were prepared and we are now doing everything to hunt down these renegade groups,” he told Gold Star Daily yesterday.
Anayron said they may have been unable to prevent the atrocities perpetrated by MILF renegade groups led by Abdullah Macapaar a.k.a. Commander Bravo in Lanao del Norte and Iligan City, but they were able to immediately send their troops to the affected areas on the day of the attack last Monday, August 18, 2008.
He said if the accusation that they were unprepared were true then the Fourth Infantry Division would not have been able to immediately move their forces to these areas considering that its soldiers have to be pulled-out from other field areas.
According to Anayron, they had now more than one battalion in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte not just to keep the residents there safe, but also, to hunt down MILF renegade leader Commander Bravo and his followers.
He said the arrival of these Armed Forces soldiers from the Visayas Command is a welcome development.
“It goes to show that your Armed Forces is prepared nationwide and doing everything to hunt down Bravo and Kato,” he said.
