Canned goods’ prices climb amid pump price rollbacks

Pump prices may be in a roll down in gasoline stations but the prices of canned goods and dairy prices are on a climb at local department stores and public markets.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-CDO) head Elisa Pabillore disclosed how their monitoring groups had recently observed some increases in canned goods such as Century Tuna and other sardines.

Also, the prices of some Nestle Philippines, Inc. products are going up specifically its bestselling coffee brand Nescafe and chocolate powered drink MILO.

Cogon Public Market vendors Bernardino Babano and Catherine Turayna confirmed these price increases even as they voiced confusion on how such is taking place when the prices of oil is going down.

Babano said the prices of sardines have climbed from a minimum of atleast P11.00 to P11.75 per can if for the regular variety and P12.00 to P13.00 for the hot sardines.

He said the small-sized beef loaf canned goods are now tagged from the minimum of P14.00 to P15.00 to atleast P15.00 or P17.00 per can while the bigger can is now tagged from P23.50 to P24.50.

He added that a 150 grams of canned corned beef prices went up from atleast P20.00 to at P25.00 per can while a 260 grams of canned corned beef has gone up from P40.00 to P42.00.

Turayna for her part said the price of a 100 grams pack of Nescafe has increased from P69.00 to P71.00 while the 50 grams went up from P35.00 to P35.75 and the Nescafe 25 grams from P17.50 to P18.00 per pack.

She added that the price of an Alpine or Alaska canned milk products both the evaporated and the condensed milk, however, had remained stable.

“Kining sa Nestle products nga increase kagahapon lang ni nila gipatuman (These price increases in the Nestle products was just implemented yesterday Tuesday),” she told Gold Star Daily yesterday.
