Despite claims made that 15 out of the 17 rural barangay telephones of the P50 million Telepono sa Barangay project are already operational, there are still eight hinterland telephones that do not have assigned numbers and are suffering from interconnection problems.

Pagatpat barangay chairperson Rey Mabunay, Tignapoloan barangay chairperson Renato Rances and Baikingon barangay secretary Michele Gapo said there are still some problems with the telephones for barangays Balubal, San Simon, Tuburan, Tagpangi, Tumpagon, FS Catanico, Taglimao and Besigan.

They said they could not contact barangays Balubal, FS Catanico, Taglimao, Tuburan, Tagpangi, Tumpagon and Besigan as there has been no numbers given for these barangays.

Mabunay said they have some difficulties in calling up barangay San Simon and Pigasag-an due to some interconnection problems.

For his part, Rances complained how their barangay telephone at Tignapoloan has “interruptions” and that the caller could not make out clearly what the other person is saying at the other end.

“Sagarat ang among linya kung pwede ipa-double check unta ni,” he told Gold Star Daily.

Gapo observed that they have already their rural telephone operational for almost two months and yet have not been given the numbers for barangays Balubal, FS Catanico, Taglimao, Tuburan, Tagpangi, Tumpagon and Besigan.

She said they however had the telephone numbers for barangays Lumbia and Canitoan.

Both barangays Lumbia and Canitoan were not included in the original list of 17 barangays covered under the P50 million Telepono sa Barangay to be undertaken by the project contractor, Supplier Contractor and Networking Telecommunications (Scantel) considering that their areas are already being served by local telecommunications landline companies.

The Commission on Audit (CoA) only listed the following as part of the 17 barangays: Baikingon, Balubal, Bayanga, Besigan, Dansolihon, FS Catanico, Indahag, Mambuaya, Pagalungan, Pagatpat, Pigsag-an, San Simon, Taglimao, Tagpangi, Tignapoloan, Tuburan and Tumpagon.

Earlier, City Hall reported that Scantel president Francisco Villapando informed Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino Jaraula that 15 out of the 17 barangays are already fully operational and that only barangays Besigan and Tignapoloan needs “fine-tuning.”
