A new kind of animal livestock disease is also spreading out in the hinterland barangays but this time it is killing cows and carabaos.
City Councilor Adrian Barba yesterday reported that some 12-15 cattles have already been killed by this disease including some of his own livestock in Barangay Mambuaya this city.
He said he has already asked Dr. Allan Blanco from the City Veterinary Office to conduct an autopsy on his dead carabao whereby the liver was taken out.
“Ilang gi-ingon ngil-ad na ang liver,” he said during their regular session yesterday.
He added that he is now waiting for the full findings on the examination and some liver tests conducted on his dead carabao.
Barba said he has also requested the City Veterinary Office to conduct a surveillance on this “livestock sickness” considering that it may be another kind of virus different from that of the hog cholera that has been affecting hogs in the city and province.
He disclosed that he has received reports of some other cows and carabaos being affected by this illneess in other hinterland barangays adjacent to Barangay Mambuaya.
He added that something has to be done to make sure that the illness does not spread any further as that of what is happening to the hog cholera virus.
City Councilor Alden Bacal said people who are into livestock raising as well as barangay leaders should immediately report any of these incidences involving livestock sicknesses to the City Veterinary Office and the City Agriculture Office to help arrest the spread of this new virus as well as that of the hog cholera virus.
Committee on health and sanitation chairperson City Councilor Dante Pajo and Committee on Agriculture chairperson City Councilor Ian Acenas vowed to also look into this new sickness affecting cows and carabaos.
