Even Islamist Groups Condemn Al-Qaeda
Al-Qaeda, in the person of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, beheaded a helpless American man in Iraq in early May and thus earned the contempt of all pious Muslims — including some other extremist Arab groups. The killing was so cowardly that the perpetrator hid his shame behind a head scarf and a ski mask. It is notable that al-Zarqawi never puts himself in dangerous situations but sends others to do his bidding or makes certain his victim is bound and helpless before attacking. On May 13, two Islamist groups, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Hamas, issued strongly worded condemnations of al-Qaeda and the impious al-Zarqawi and his unholy murderous acts. Both groups said the beheading was appalling and contrary to the teachings of Islam. In a public statement Hezbollah called the killing an “extremely brutal and cruel” act. The statement announced, “Hezbollah condemns this grisly act, which has caused great harm to Islam and to Muslims by this group that falsely claims to belong to the religion of mercy, compassion and genuine human values.”Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, denounced the killers, saying, “I condemn this brutal act and sympathize with the family of the slain American.” Both Hezbollah and Hamas said the beheading damages Arab causes. Many Muslim countries also denounced al-Zarqawi. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were the first Arab states to criticize him. The Emirates’ information minister, Sheikh Abdullah, issued a statement that, in part, said, “We are ashamed, because these terrorists carried out this attack in the name of our religion and our culture. This brutal act has nothing to do with Islam or our Arab values.” Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States called the decapitation “criminal and inhuman.” He said the unholy character of al-Qaeda members leads them to “commit acts that violate the teachings of Islam, a noble religion that deplores such acts.”Criticism of al-Qaeda and its satanic tactics was growing stronger even before the May atrocity. The Islamic nationalist group, the Muslim Brotherhood, had previously condemned al-Qaeda in very strong terms. Referring to the foiled al-Qaeda plot to murder tens of thousand of Jordanians, Lawyer Abd-al-Majid al-Dhunaybat, controller-general of the Muslim Brotherhood, said the al-Qaeda terrorists have “a serious mental aberration and a very grave extremist ideology that leads to extremist behavior that is alien to the teachings of Islam and has nothing to do with it.” According to details provided by the arrested men, the al-Qaeda chemical bomb plot against Jordan’s security services would have used trucks packed with 20 tons of explosives and chemical agents. The attack could have killed as many as 80,000 people. Al-Dhunaybat stressed that the Muslim Brotherhood does not support terrorist actions and extremist ideas. He described terrorism and violence as an “illness” and condemned those who claim that they are Muslims but carry out non-Muslim acts. On April 20 in Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, had reaffirmed that Islam is a religion of peace and moderation. The crown prince delivered the inaugural address at an international conference on Islam and terrorism organized by Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. “Islam condemns all forms of terrorism, and we must strive to correct wrong perceptions about our religion,” he said. “This is my vision.” More than 200 experts on terrorism and academics from European, American and Asian universities and non-governmental research institutes attended the event, which was titled “The Stand of Islam on Terrorism, Violence and Extremism.”Higher Education Minister Doctor Khaled al-Angary, in the keynote address for the April conference, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s resolve to combat terror. Constant clashes between the West and the Islamic world were a bad omen for the future of the world, he said, adding that the three-day conference was intended to clarify these misconceptions. He said the violence of al-Qaeda and its associated groups are anti-Islamic, conveying “lies and false accusations” about the religion.

Egyptian Imam Stresses Islam’s Opposition to Terrorism
In a sermon delivered by Dr. Ahmad Umar Hashim , former head of Al-Azhar University ans supreme head of the world Muslim youth association and member of the Egyptian higher Sufi council, during the friday prayers and sermon from Al-Salam mosque in city of Sharm al-Shaykh begin his sermon by praising God Almighty and the prophet and spoke about celebrating the national day of the Governorate of Southern Sinai. He indicated that Sinai is a blessed land that was mentioned in the Koran, and stressed that it is a cherished piece of land for the Egyptians who defended it in their Jihad [struggle for the sake of God]. . .
Later, he spoke about the message of the Koran to Muslims and how it urged Muslims to be moderate, to avoid extremism and to be tolerant. . . He added: “This tolerant religion, with its rituals of worship, legislations and principles, which were brought by the purest man who laid foot on earth [Prophet Muhammad], . . . does not accept violence or extremism; no excesses and no forfeiture.
The sermon says that it does not accept terrorism at all or aggression against anyone. It calls for peaceful coexistence and it calls for world peace. It deals with this world with wisdom, mercy, easiness and tolerance, because its prophet, peace be upon him, warned against this and said: “do not return after my demise to be infidels that cut each others’ throats”. The prophet of this nation, peace be upon him has called for unity, avoidance of divisions and enmity among each other and living with the inhabitants of this world in security and peace.” He went on to stress that Islam is the only religion that protects the rights of non-Muslims. . .The said sermon given by Dr. Hashim was very much in contrast with the way the Al Qaeda terrorist organization – who profess to be the protector of Islam – has been behaving and operating. Based from the transcription from the “Al Qaeda Manual” it did have a section on the “military organization” which states that it has three main principles without which it cannot be established. The following are: 1. Military Organization commander and advisory council, 2. The soldiers (individual members), and 3. A clearly defined strategy Al Qaeda’s Military Organization dictates a number of requirements to assist in confrontation and endurance. These are: 1. Forged documents and counterfeit currency 2. Apartments and hiding places 3. Communication means 4. Transportation means 5. Information 6. Arms and ammunition 7. Transport Missions Required of the Its Military Organization’s main mission for which the Military Organization is responsible is: The overthrow of the godless regimes and their replacement with an Islamic regime and other missions consist of the following: 1. Gathering information about the enemy, the land, the installations, and the neighbors, 2. Kidnaping enemy personnel, documents, secrets, and arms, 3. Assassinating enemy personnel as well as foreign tourists, 4. Freeing the brothers who are captured by the enemy, 5. Spreading rumors and writing statements that instigate people against the enemy, 6. Blasting and destroying the places of amusement, immorality, and sin; not a vital target, 7. Blasting and destroying the embassies and attacking vital economic centers, 8. Blasting and destroying bridges leading into and out of the cities. Clearly, based on the Manual of Al Qaeda it does not adhere to Islamic principles and doctrine. It is there to create chaos and havoc and inflict misery to innocent civilians.
