Two brothers were stabbed to death late afternoon Tuesday at Sta. Cruz, Barangay Camaman-an this city.

Cogon Police Precinct station commander Police Insp. Buenaventura Reyes said the victims of the stabbing are 24-year old Ramil Malabago and his brother 15-year old brother Raul from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

He said the suspect passenger motorcycle driver John Micheal Bagtong has already voluntarily surrendered to their office and gave his version of the incident.

“We are still verifying his (Bagtong’s) statements,” he said.

Reyes disclosed how Bagtong is claiming that the whole incident was a self-defense on his part considering that it was the older Malabago brother who first made the move to kill him.

He said the suspect was allegedly hired by the Malabago brothers as their habal-habal driver to bring them to the upper portion of Barangay Camaman-an.

Reyes recounted how Bagtong told them that just when they were about to board the single motorcycle and leave for their destination, Ramil suddenly stabbed Bagtong at his back.

He said Bagtong allegedly fought back and was able to wrestle the knife from Ramil and use it to stab the latter as well as the minor Malabago sibling who tried to help and avenge his older brother.

“But we will still be filing two counts of homicide against Bagtong,” the police officer said adding that it will be up to Bagtong to prove in court that the killing was self-defense.
