8 bombs still stashed away – Emano

Cagayan de Oro city vice-mayor Vicente Emano yesterday claimed that he was able to gather intelligence information that those responsible for the recent Iligan City bombing are still planning out eight more bombing attacks.

“Duna pay walo ka bomba ug ako kining gisunod kung asa mipaingon (There are still eight more bombs and I am trying to track them down),” he said over dxIF Bombo Radyo yesterday morning.

He voiced hopes that these bombers would not push through with their plans considering that the innocents and non-combatants are the ones who suffer.

Nevertheless, Emano said he was able to receive additional intelligence information last Monday night that Cagayan de Oro city is safe so far but that the situation is volatile and can change anytime.

He said he and several other local officials are doing everything they can to bring in peace among local constituents, migrants and visitors.

“Nanghinaot ako nga dili nila tugawon ang kahusay ug kalinaw sa atong syudad,” he said.

Fourth Infantry Division public affairs officer Maj. Michelle Anayron told Gold Star Daily that they will have Emano’s information independently verified by their own military intelligence network.

“He has his reliable sources and we will take this information seriously,” he said.

Anayron said the members of their military intelligence network are also verifying other information they can get their hands into in relation to the bombings.

Still, he reiterated his admission that they need the help of the general public in intelligence gathering as the military and police cannot be everywhere and local communities know who are from their area and who are not.

Still, this local military spokesperson voiced hopes that no one would make prank calls or initiate any hoax as it wastes their time and resources.

Also, Anayron is asking local malls and department stores to actually step up their security measures.

He recounted how he was bringing his government-issued firearm to one of the huge malls here in the city but, when his bag was checked at the entrance and he just told the security guard that he was from the military, there was no other move to question him or ask for any identification.

“The security measures are all still very lax and it would be just too easy to smuggle in practically anything,” he said.
