A teenager was rushed to the hospital after a reported member of the Armed Forces’ Fourth Infantry Division shot him at his private parts in a karaoke bar last Thursday night in Naawan, Misamis Oriental.
Records at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) revealed yesterday that John dela Peña, 19, of Naawan, Misamis Oriental was shot at his genitals area by a certain “Sergeant Putol”.
Dela Peña was reportedly trying to purchase some cigarettes at the same karaoke bar when he was shot by “Sergeant Putol” who was allegedly being prodded by his beer buddies to prove that indeed he is a sharpshooter.
Fourth Infantry Division spokesperson Major Michelle Anayron told Gold Star Daily yesterday that they are still trying to verify this report considering that there are three personnel in their master list who have “Putol” as their surnames.
He said this include a Corporal Rommel Putol, a Sergeant Frederick Putol and a Sergeant Edwin Putol.
“We will still check on this to determine if the incident actually happened. But if he is found guilty and he is a member of our military, then putol sab iyang panerbisyo sa atoang buhatan (then his service with the military will also be severed),” he said.
Anayron said administrative charges against any erring military personnel can be filed and proceeded upon independently of any criminal and civil charges even if a private complainant withdraws his or her complaint.
He added that the police blotter and testimonies of witnesses will be enough for any administrative charge to prosper.
In a radio interview, Naawan Mayor Dennis Roa confirmed the shooting incident and disclosed that he had already ordered some of his men to look for Sgt. Putol and take custody of him.
He added that they are still trying to verify if “Putol” is actually the accused’s surname or just a nickname tagged on him by friends.
