Comelec approves Abamin as partylist candidate

A Cagayan de Oro city-born partylist organization was finally approved by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to be among those allowed to participate in the May 10, 2010 National and Local elections.
In Resolution No. 8744 dated January 15, 2010, the Comelec Commission en banc approved the application of 144 party-list organizations to join the forthcoming polls race including Abante Mindanao or now popularly known as “Abamin.”
Last 2007, Abante Mindanao petitioned the Comelec to be accredited as one of the participating partylists but this was denied by the poll body.
Abamin president Maximo Rodriguez said they were very glad to receive reports that indeed Comelec has approved their party-list among the more than 300 party-list groups who also filed their intent to participate in the polls.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who are supporting us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez vowed to push for fast tracking Mindanao’s economic growth and development and to protect and preserve the environment, indigenous cultures and ancestral domain, vital for future generations by balancing economic growth and technological advancement with rational development and sustainable utilization of natural resources.
Also, he said there is a need to attain lasting peace and stability, through advancement of social justice, equity and equality among all Mindanao inhabitants regardless of ethnic groupings, religious beliefs, income strata and gender.
“We are also advocating for affirmative action by the national government to correct the inequitable and inadequate government resources infused in Mindanao ,” he said.
He added that Abamin is also working for the adoption of a federal system of government. This is to espouse more appropriate and effective policies to assure the fullest development of the six regions of Mindanao .
