PDEA-10 denies P100T drug deal
January 21, 2010
The regional office of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA-10) vehemently denied reports that some of its agents entered into a P100,000 worth bargain with a local official in the Municipality of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. The deal was supposedly for the release of this official’s son who was caught in flagrante with illegal drugs during a recent buy bust operation in the area.
In an interview, PDEA-10 regional director Abet Abanto said they never conducted any operation in Villanueva last year.
“Ginamit lang ang pangalan ng PDEA para siraan kami (They are just using the name of the PDEA to destroy us),” he said.
Abanto is now calling upon the any member of the general public who saw any PDEA agent as receiving bribe to immediately contact their office or to have that PDEA agent arrested.
“On-call kami dito, we will immediately take action on the call kung meron mang tatawag sa amin dito (We are always on-call, we will immediately take action on the call should any person asks for our help here),” he said.
Abanto said not a single member of their agency can be bought and that each of them had always made sure that their reputation and dignity would not be tainted to the general public.
He said a PDEA agent who should be proven to have accepted any bribe in a drug deal would not be given another second chance.
“That PDEA agent will leave the service and in the agency,” he said.
Abanto issued this statement amid reports that a PDEA-10 agent actually visited dxIF Bombo Radyo radio station located at Corrales, Cagayan de Oro and issued threats against the station’s anchorman Manny Agustero.
This after the Agustero reported on live broadcast a blind item that some agents entered into a P100,000 deal with a Villanueva official for the release of the latter’s son.
Abanto said they are still trying to verify the identity of the person and whether he is indeed a PDEA-10 agent.
He assured that proper sanctions would be slapped against the person should he be a PDEA-10 agent and that he harassed Agustero regardless of the falsity of the reported Villanueva P100,000 drug deal.
Abanto said he would willingly accompany any dxIF Bombo Radyo personnel to Villanueva just to prove that there was no such negotiation entered by any of their agents.
“May mga ilang tao kasi na ginagamit ang pangalan nga PDEA para lang makapangikil sa mga binibiktima nila (There are just some people who would like to use the PDEA to blackmail their victims into yielding to what they want),” he said.
