A two-hectare marijuana plantation allegedly belonging to local communist rebels was recently found by law enforcers in one of the hinterland barangays in the Province of Bukidnon , military reports revealed yesterday.
Armed Forces’ Fourth Infantry Division spokesperson Maj. Michele Anayron, Jr. said a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) tipped their men as to the location of this marijuana plantation at Vic Lulobong, Barangay Canangaan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.
“The rebel returnee also averred that the NPA own this marijuana plantation as one of the sources of funds,” he told Gold Star Daily in a text message.
Reports reveal that the marijuana plants in this plantation is estimated to be worth around P21 million.
Anayron said a taskforce was immediately created together with the regional office of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA-10), Army Intelligence and Security Group (AISG) and Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Elements from PDEA-10, 300th AISG and PAF were accompanied by one platoon of Bravo Company from their 8th Infantry Batallion to locate this marijuana plantation.
This military official said their troops have already uprooted approximately 41,344 saplings and 54,336 fully grown marijuana plants.
“Uprooting activities and locating those behind this marijuana plantation are still on progress,” he said.
He added that this is not the first time that the military has found rebels resorting to planting of marijuana to bankroll their activities.
