An investigation is now being conducted on which among the telecommunication companies operating in Cagayan de Oro are deliberately cutting cables wires from other rival networks.
National Telecommunications Commission (NTC-10) regional director Engr. Teodoro Buenavista, Jr. said there are now reports that there are some linemen from rival telecommunication companies here who are tampering with cable wires that do not belong to their company.
He said he does not want this matter to snowball into a full cables wire war wherein unidentified linemen from each telecommunication company would took turns cutting down cable wires from other firms using the same posts.
“I am now conducting an investigation this considering that it would be our local subscribers who would suffer,” he told Gold Star Daily.
He added that he would be calling on the telecommunication firms — Philippine Long Distance and Telecommunications (PLDT), Philippine Global Communications Corp. (PhilCom), Misamis Oriental Telephone Systems, Inc. (Misortel), BayanTel, Sotelco, Globe Telecommunications, Inc. and Smart Telecommunications, Inc..among others – to ask them on this latest cable controversy.
Southern Telecommunications Company, Inc. (Sotelco) manager Josephine Balayo and marketing head Melchor Ladrillo disclosed that their office received complaints from their subscribers on how some of their cable lines were “cleanly and deliberately cut” by other telecommunication firms.
“Ang uban panitan nila ang wire unya mao mo-ground na hinoon problema na hinoon (Some skins the insulator of the wires causing it to release electricity and causing us problems), Ladrillo said.
Balayo said there are some companies who hired linemen who do not know how to identify their own cable wires when now placed side-by-side with other firms.
“The problem is we do not have any suspect on who is behind this,” he said
