Around a hundred families here are now demanding the immediate release of the funds promised to them by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo under one of her anti-poverty programs.
First District city councilor Dante Pajo said these families come five barangays in the Second District of Cagayan de Oro who are beneficiaries of Arroyo’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or popularly dubbed as “4Ps.”
He said the complaints raised by these families include the failure to release the P1,400.00 per month cash benefits under this social welfare program for the third quarter of last year.
These families are from barangays Consolacion, Puntod, Macasandig, Lapasan and Macabalan who were endorsed by their barangay chieftains as qualified to be beneficiaries of this program.
“Unta wala kita’y labot niini nga programa but sa ngalan nga ang involve mga taga-Cagayan ra gihapon dapat tabangan lang gihapon nato,” Pajo told Gold Star Daily.
He said they already initiated a tracing as to what is causing the non-release of the funds and that they found out that it was due to the move to have the P1,400 funds release under an electronic card or “e-card” system with Land Bank of the Philippines.
Pajo who heads the committee on health and social welfare services said he has called upon the concerned agencies involved in the 4Ps for a committee hearing to address the concerns of these families.
He said the Department of Social Welfare and Development, City Social Welfare and Development and the Land Bank had all assured that the e-card system would soon be updated and the funds released.
“We are hoping that the P1,400.00 per month for each family-beneficiary would now be released by the second week of February,” he said.
The P1,400 is broken down as follows: P500.00 as part of the national government’s monthly health benefit package and P900.00 as scholarship program the three children of the family or at P300.00 for each student.
